So since I have been back tutoring again I have 2 children coming each week for an hour a session. One working on math, the other reading. I really like the new aspect of tutoring a child in reading - it has helped me keep up to date with new activities and websites and things in other subjects instead of all my focus being on math (still the saga continues with a certain direction of math because of my Primary/Junior Mathematics AQ that I am completing right now).
It is a great thing to hear from the parents and children each week that they look forward to coming to see me and want to come more or tell their friends that they are missing out. I am always wanting the kids to be having a good time while working on what they need or the concepts and practice won't be as effective. When they enjoy what they are doing they don't really realize how much they are learning but it sinks in much more.
I've already seen improvement with the math student, gaining his skills from struggling at the 3 multiples to now focussing more on being able to figure out 6,7, and 8's faster and more confidently. We will definitely be moving on to harder questions using higher digits and word questions to continue his practice but we both love playing the multiplication games I have each week together.
All in all I am busy with tutoring while keeping a balance of the two other jobs but I would love to have more tutoring time and gain some more students. I emailed a new possible client today and am hoping to hear back to make it 3 per week!
