Hi all!
Spring originally brought me to a new adventure in emergency supplying with Upper Grand District School Board and in the last week, Avon Maitland District School Board. It was a fantastic experience in which I got to teach, do EA work, and ECE work in many different schools across the board.
This summer has brought many new experiences, new clients, and new things to look forward to. I have been tutoring 3 new students once a week in math, reading, and writing. It has kept me extremely busy and given me some new techniques and resources to use and try with the students. Some have been very helpful, others proved not so much. It's great to be able to see the different learning styles and techniques at play and how it affects the learning and the goals each week.
I have had some difficulty especially with a low level student and finding the exact curriculum and work to meet her needs to help her grow while not being too challenging in order for her to stay on task and feel like she can do it and get better. She has this spunk and joyful personality that makes tutoring her very fun and enriching. I hope to keep this love and joy for learning and growing instilled in her to help her grow in her math troubles.
The two boys are fantastic students to tutor. I have never been so lucky with the behaviour and focus they have during our sessions. Overcoming some anxiety and fear of failing will do them well and they will be on to great things I know it.
Along with the new clients, I also have been working a lot at my factory job. However - the biggest news is that I may be able to finally quit the factory and finally focus all my work and attention to the education field! I received interviews for OT and EA positions at TVDSB (my hometown school board) and today got verification that I got the EA job pending some training and physical and am really crossing my fingers and hoping for the best to hear some more good news in the next week or two.
This means I can really get the experience and take the necessary steps to get to my final goal of getting a teaching contract position in Thames Valley and enrich the lives of so many children for the rest of my working life! So exciting and so nerve-wracking at the same time. Here's hoping this year is a great one! Can't wait for September and to continue my journey!
